System families have a Function setting. Thats true for Walls, Floor, Roofs and Ceilings. Finish 1 [4] = Finish Exterior [4]. Finish 2 [5] = Finish Interior [5]. Just a question, I also practice n°4 finish for exterior and n°5 for interior, but for the pure operation of Revit, is there a reason?

Allows exporting of materials painted on elements to ODBC. Improves section creation within a project with linked model. Corrects the display of the materials category within the Paint interface. Improves stability when enabling “Show Analytical Model Categories in this View” when the Warning dialog is open.

These divisions, while relevant to the architectural model, are ruining the possibilities of creating gbXML files without extensive work on the part of the engineer to remove the room separation lines, and then repair the damage done to the room names and numbers. They were however using them for the room finish schedules.
