System families have a Function setting. Thats true for Walls, Floor, Roofs and Ceilings. If changed I suspect people would have less trouble deciding which function is appropriate. When MEP (Systems as it was called then) appeared a year later they extended the concept to Mechanical and Electrical (plumbing lumped in with Mechanical till release 2013). When Mechanical is assigned Revit changes the nature of what plan and reflected plan mean. The concept of View Discipline appeared with Revit Structure.

A few changes have been made this year as to how the updates are accessed. Improves stability when selecting a new host for an element within an In-place Wall. Improves creation consistency with Physical Wall when coping an Analytical Model Wall. Improves stability when splitting pipes which belong to different systems.

The problems are with autodesk's management of the software and of the paying client base, who are always secondary to the shareholders. How many revit 2013 changes (I can't call them all improvements) address AUGI wishlist items? I think we're just at the beginning of massive change in the industry. The soluton?

It makes it easier to keep certain sections (details/wall sections) and elevations (interior) off of overall floor plan views for example. Related to this is the notion that there are representations that wed like to control for floor plan orientation and offer a different appear for the reflected ceiling plan (RCP) version.

Rooms and areas can be deleted in model views like floor plans and ceiling plans. That is intended to make it easier to place them elsewhere in the model without having to recreate them from scratch if their current location needs to be changed.
