Changing a Username. Youll have to manually change it if necessary. You can change your username before you open a local file but not after. You cant change your username until you close that file. I included the following tips and advice (edited a little in this version) in a door tutorial I wrote for my Autodesk University 2005 lab called "Autodesk Revit Building Family Editor: From the Beginning". Change the scale of the view to make it easier to constrain, select geometry. Skin - solids/voids and model/symbolic lines.

It was meant to make it simple to alter the appearance of our model to be more in sync with what a structural engineer wants to see. When Mechanical is assigned Revit changes the nature of what plan and reflected plan mean. They were there but the discipline change altered how Revit calculates the display of the elements.

I used a pair of model lines (assigned to Invisible) to govern the location of the arc and line endpoints. It also means that the family will break if one of these segments is flex too far, assuming the changes result in a zero length segment. What you describe as working doesn't work on the model lines in my example.
