of Echo - Dont use the Basic Ceiling. When an architect uses the Basic Ceiling-Generic type they are creating a situation for the Revit MEP user they may not be aware of. Interestingly, in Ceiling Plan views only, when we take advantage of this we lose the ability to show just two lines with Detail Level: Coarse. Could it be that the wall is not being cut in the ceiling plan view and the multiple lines are actually projection lines? ► 2011. ► December 2011. (19). Labels: Dept.

When MEP (Systems as it was called then) appeared a year later they extended the concept to Mechanical and Electrical (plumbing lumped in with Mechanical till release 2013). Engineers dont generally do reflected plans so Revit made it easier to generate regular floor plans that show their elements in a way they expect to see them.

Area plans could help document such things but then floor plans would be "ignorant" of what these kinds of "areas" are, no tagging possible, just "dumb text". A zone would wrap up the spaces that are served by a single system as you described. ► 2011. ► December 2011. (19). ► November 2011. (21).

It makes it easier to keep certain sections (details/wall sections) and elevations (interior) off of overall floor plan views for example. Related to this is the notion that there are representations that wed like to control for floor plan orientation and offer a different appear for the reflected ceiling plan (RCP) version.
