System families have a Function setting. Thats true for Walls, Floor, Roofs and Ceilings. Finish 1 [4] = Finish Exterior [4]. Finish 2 [5] = Finish Interior [5]. If changed I suspect people would have less trouble deciding which function is appropriate. Wall Floor Interaction and Linked Models.

Change the scale of the view to make it easier to constrain, select geometry. Dont include parameters in families that dont change geometry, instead put them in project templates and apply them to the categories they affect. On a somewhat related note, is there a way to change or get rid of added object styles in a parent family?

Rooms and areas can be deleted in model views like floor plans and ceiling plans. That is intended to make it easier to place them elsewhere in the model without having to recreate them from scratch if their current location needs to be changed. The problem with pinning it down is that as soon as I think Ive got it, I change it a little and then Revit doesnt complain about importing the file.
