Dont define materials in families, define material parameters instead (or possibly sub-categories) as much as possible so materials can be assigned in a project, where they really matter. Dont include parameters in families that dont change geometry, instead put them in project templates and apply them to the categories they affect.

When we have architecture and structure in separate Revit models we end up with somewhat clumsy graphics in wall sections. This is more pronounced if the structural slab is in the structure model only. It's a little easier to manage than reveals. Managing all the reveals could be a coordination nightmare.

Move the files into position keeping them all near the Revit project file origin. I can work in a central file as long as necessary, as long as nobody else is working on the project in local files too. I've found that if a user is trying to open a workshared project at the same time as another user is synchronizing with the central file, the create new local checkbox is greyed out. ► 2011.

It was tied to the project units and you had to alter a dimension style to not use the project units settings in order to use it. This means your dimension styles can continue to depend on the Project Units as well as suppress the spaces in dimension values. The option for Suppress Spaces exists in the the Project Units dialog.
