He was monitoring the federally threatened bird – the Piping Plover ( Charadrius melodus ), one of several environmental conservation measures performed by the agency on all coastal restoration projects to ensure wildlife is not harmed. In 2012, 18 miles of the 21-mile project was completed. The Seabeach Amaranth does its part.
