The new Melton station will be built with four platforms, with access from both sides of the rail line and each platform accessible from lifts and stairs. The level crossings will be removed, and the new station will be opened in 2026, two years ahead of schedule.
The new Melton station will be built with four platforms, with access from both sides of the rail line and each platform accessible from lifts and stairs. Member for Melton Steve McGhie said the release of the final designs means construction is a step closer to commencing later this year.
The elevated station will become accessible from both sides of the rail line – with pedestrian walkways, cycling paths, pick-up and drop-off zones, and lifts and stairs to each platform.
These level crossings are on track to be removed in 2026. It will also feature an air-conditioned waiting room, a staffed ticket office, and lighting and security cameras throughout the area. Final designs for all four level crossing removals and the new Melton Station will be released later this year.
Upgrades would also involve a new pumping station to lift water from the tunnel and uphill 250 ft (76m) to the Bethany Reservoir, 60 miles (97km) east of San Francisco and 40 miles (64km) southwest of the source. Under the Delta are the Cleveland Hills and Sierra Nevada faults of the active San Joaquin Fault Zone.
