Higgins job cuts to be confirmed within weeks

Higgins Group is set to make its recently announced round of redundancies within the next two weeks. Sources close to the company told the Enquirer up to 50 jobs could go in the restructuring. Higgins confirmed redundancy plans last month as part of a restructuring into regions of “the delivery element of the business.” The Essex based contractor said the changes “will improve operational efficiencies and provide a platform for our growth targets.

20 firms win YORcivil3 £800m framework deal

Procurement body YORhub has picked 20 firms for its third-generation civil engineering framework covering the Yorkshire and Humber regions. Separated into two regional frameworks together worth an estimated £800m, they will replace YORcivil2, which is due to expire in August. Presently 29 civils firms hold places on the existing panels. Newcomers to Yorcivil3 include Eric Wright, Keltbray, Galliford Try, Octavius.

Marshalls to cut 250 jobs as sales slump

Building products manufacturer Marshalls is cutting 250 jobs and closing its factory in Carluke, Lanarkshire as the slowing housing market drags down sales. The job losses come on top of 150 redundancies at the end of last year.
