Metal thieves strip Nottingham £8m building job

Construction Enquirer

Nottingham police are on the hunt for a gang of metal thieves that struck at a five-storey luxury care home project in the city. Thousands of pounds worth of copper piping and stainless steel were stolen from Midlands contractor Sandycroft’s building site in West Brighford. The firm was well advanced on the £8m project to build the 72-bed Trent Bridge care home project at the Loughborough Road and Bridgford Road junction.

Brims wins £15m Sunderland construction academy

Sunderland City Council has signed off a £15m deal with Brims Construction to design and build the Housing Innovation and Construction Skills Academy planned for the city. The project was to be delivered by Tolent Construction but stalled when the North East builder collapsed into administration last February. At the time Brims, which is run by the two sons of former Tolent founder John Wood, stepped in to buy just the Teesside operation of the crashed building group, saving around 150 jobs.

Plans in to convert Middleton cotton mill to 280 flats

The UK arm of Chinese developer Kam Lei Fong has lodged plans with Rochdale Council to convert an historic cotton mill into over 280 flats. The plan to convert the derelict grade-II listed Warwick Mill in Middleton has been designed by GMA Architecture and will also include a new 10-storey build block alongside the Victorian mill that will accommodate around half the planned new flats.
