Structural building components specialist ACS Stainless Steel Fixings (ACS) has launched Intex FireProtect. It is the first masonry support system combining four critical components in one easy-to-fit design – meaning it is over 40% faster to install.
Photo courtesy Alberta Masonry Council. SD Hollow concrete block masonry was first used as a building material around 1870, when wooden molds were developed to produce concrete block units from a relatively dry mixture of sand, cement, and water. Concrete block masonry and architectural block masonry also support resilient buildings.
In the 20 th century, wall assemblies discretized into multi-layered systems with each playing a distinct role. Over time, designers developed various wall configurations to provide thermal mass and weather protection suitable to particular building and climate parameters. Image courtesy PIMA.
Prior to this, tension fabric structures had typically relied upon hollow-tube, web truss framing systems. Where fabric becomes advantageous by comparison, however, is that the cost to clad a building with polyvinyl chloride (PVC) fabric walls is much less than constructing masonrywalls or using other “conventional” materials.
AIM Acoustic & Insulation Manufacturing has supplied wall cavity barriers and open state cavity barriers (OSCBs), along with technical support, for a ‘path-breaking’, 900-room student accommodation development at the University of West England Bristol’s Frenchay Campus. AIM’s products were supplied through SIG Manchester.

The goal is to protect the legacy of these important structures while upgrading their functionality for modern use. Experts can also restore centuries-old craftsmanship such as rough plaster, hand-carved woodwork, and masonry techniques that have fallen out of modern construction.
Improving building enclosure performance While energy efficiency might initially suggest well-insulated walls and efficient HVAC systems, controlling air leakage can be just as critical. Uncontrolled air movement through penetrations in the building enclosure can increase energy costs as HVAC systems work harder to condition the air.
AIM – Acoustic & Insulation Manufacturing Fire Stop Blocks are now backed by test evidence covering a wider range of applications. Tested to the principles of BS EN 1366-4:2021, AIMs Fire Stop Blocks also have IFC Certification Ltd third-party certification. Our Fire Stop Block range is comprehensive.

What Is a Cavity Wall? A cavity wall consists of a hollow space between them. The cavity walls normally consist of two skins, which should be brick , cinder blocks , or reinforcement concrete blocks , etc. The weep hole is constructed above the window or base the wall to draw out the rainwater. How to Build a Cavity Wall?

As the popularity of timber frame construction continues to rise in the UK, understanding the intricacies of timber frame external wall construction details UK becomes increasingly important. Short Summary Understand the theory of timber frame external wall construction, including studs and sheathing, ventilation membranes and cladding.
They cannot carry any vertical load such as walls etc. Tie beams can also work to support walls or any other partitions among them. Tie beams are also worked as a tie element to protect the differential settlement between footings according to the strata. They serve as strip footings to support interior or exterior walls.
Structure fires have dropped significantly over the past 40 years, and one major contributor to this decline in fires and fire deaths has been the development of comprehensive fire safety measures. It is these multiple layers of fire safety, not a single requirement, which result in safe construction.

Simply, retrofitting is repairing and modifying the existing structure into a new stable structure that protects it from flooding or dangers such as high winds and earthquakes. Retrofitting of the Structural System. Beam Addition Method: Seismic Wall Addition Method: Seismic Isolation Method: Retrofitting of Foundation.
However, while they may be surface-level in appearance, they play a critical role in protecting a building from the elements and fortifying the building envelope. It is highly versatile and can be used on material components or entire building walls. It gives the surface a smooth, solid coat with minimal effort.
Mortar is a component used during masonry building to cover the distance among bricks and blocks used during building. Mortar is often used to tie bricks or stones together within brick or stone masonry. It can be used to fill the gaps among bricks or stones to make walls strong. Generally skirting is a board which is provided in the junction point of the wall and the interior wall throughout its length. This type of skirting is used for various walls like plane walls, patterned walls, textured walls, etc. In light flooring, walls, ceiling works; wooden skirting is used.
For example, to meet modern fire codes while preserving the grand, open appearance of three existing wooden staircases, where the stairs feed out into residential hallways the architects designed new fire-rated doors that remain open unless triggered by a fire alarm and slot seamlessly into the existing fabric of surrounding walls.
Falsework may be required to support steel and timber frameworks and masonry arches as well as in situ and precast concrete construction. • Shorbrace System. Cup-Lock Supporting System. Shorbrace System. The shorbrace support system is used widely to support the bridge deck. This system possesses many merits.
It is a good idea to protect the exterior from direct sunlight. You can install protective coverings like canvas, awnings or overhangs to prevent the sun from hitting the roof and walls of your house directly. Resiliency is going to become increasingly important as storms and fires threaten how reliable our power is going to be.
Perimeters of doors, windows and other wall penetrators – The exterior walls of a building can be a significant source of unwanted water leakage. Water damage to exterior and interior walls can be significant if these important elements are not maintained properly.
Tilt-Up construction features series of concrete panels tilted up into place to form a building’s exterior wall. When the walls are ready, they’re tilted into vertical position and set on foundational footings where they form the external structure of the building. Masonry construction. These earthen dams are constructed not only for protection from floods, but also provides water for various needs to include human consumption, irrigation , industrial use, navigability, and aquaculture. For structural reasons, earth dams are suited to the sites where a masonry dam cannot be applied.
Moreover, well-constructed concrete walls, floors, and roofing elements can be left in place when an existing structure is retrofitted; extending the life of existing buildings and eliminating the carbon footprint associated with new construction. This can reduce the carbon emissions of structural systems by up to 40 percent.².
